The owners utility room floor was lenolium over concrete. To start, we moved everything out of the room, pulled all the base off, and cut the leno. away from the perimeter of the room. Then we roughed up the surface of the leno. preparing it for unimat installation. We also cut the unimat to fit the room. This process took about 4 1/2 hours.

We installed the unimat mixing our thinset a bit soupier than usual and taking a piece of 2x4 to make sure the edges lay flat and that there is full contact to the sub floor. We also got a layout before the thinset started to cure and marked some of our cuts. This process took about 2 hours.

And finally we started setting the Travetine in a broken joint pattern to match the great room that it adjoins. Whenever you are setting a natural stone, you must trowel your thinset onto your substrat as well as back butter the stone itself as shown above. This way you get a good bond. It is always a good Idea to make sure you are getting full coverage of thinset on all the tiles and cleaning up any extra thinset out of your grout joints while it is still wet is VERY helpful. This process with setiing, cutting, and cleaning up took about 9 hours. We also installed a 6" base around the room.

We pre-sealed the travertine, then grout, waited 72 hours and sealed it all again, and started moving things back into the room. This process took about 4 1/2 hours total. The whole project cost less than $1000.00. It turned out great.
